Description: The St. Croix River stretches more than 150 miles and partially forms the boundary between Minnesota and Wisconsin. It is the only river in the world that’s protected along its entire length. Beginning near Gordon, Wisconsin, the Upper St. Croix flows southerly to St. Croix Falls. The Lower St. Croix flows from St. Croix Falls dam to Prescott, Wisconsin, where it joins the Mississippi River. The Lower St. Croix is deeper, wider, and slower moving than the Upper St. Croix, making it a great place to fish, canoe, water-ski, and swim. Hot air balloon rides are available year-round. Winter activities include ice fishing, downhill and cross-country skiing, tubing, snowmobiling, and sledding. Nearby Lake St. Croix is formed by a dam on the Mississippi River and is popular for water recreation.
