- Cleaning and sanitizing operations
Failure to conduct cleaning and sanitizing operations for utensils and equipment in a manner that protects against contamination of food. Specifically, two popcorn poppers, bowls and utensils were left soiled after previous use(s). The owner stated that he last used these last week. A spider was observed in one small bucket that is used during production of flavored popcorn.
- Manufacturing conditions
Failure to package foods under conditions and controls necessary to minimize contamination. Specifically, what appears to be rodent excreta pellets is present at two transfer augers in the processing area.
- Inspection, segregation, handling of raw materials
Failure to handle raw materials to ascertain that they are clean and suitable for processing into food. Specifically, a container of canola oil and a container of popping oil were on the floor of the popcorn storage building and sitting next to a small red gas can. Antifreeze and other chemicals on shelving were adjacent to the oil.
- Storage/transportation of finished goods (contamination)
Failure to store finished food under conditions that would protect against physical and microbial contamination. Specifically, observed suspected rodent excreta pellets on empty cardboard boxes used to pack bags of popcorn and on full 50 lb. bags of yellow popcorn. There were bags that had holes from rodents chewing into the bags.
- Reasonable precautions
All reasonable precautions are not taken to ensure that production procedures do not contribute contamination from any source. Specifically, Flavacol flavoring and peanut butter can were left open after previous use. What appeared to be a beetle was observed in an uncovered bucket of popcorn that is scooped directly into the popper.
- Holding in bulk or suitable containers
Failure to hold ingredients in bulk or in suitable containers so as to protect against contamination. Specifically, popcorn is being stored in (7) uncovered 5-gallon buckets. Some of the buckets are labeled for laundry detergent and latex paint. What appears to be dried paint exists on the interior of one bucket and is in contact with the raw popcorn.
- Lack of effective pest exclusion
Effective measures are not being taken to protect against the contamination of food on the premises by pests. Specifically, upon arrival the overhead door to the popcorn storage building was open. There are still visible gaps around the west overhead door of the processing building at 3701 Ford Rd. Additionally, there were 16 dead mice observed in the processing building.

- Suitable locations
Failure to provide hand washing facilities at the bulk storage facility. Specifically, there are no hand sinks in order to wash hands during the cleaning/sifting of popcorn and filling of the 50 lb. bags at that location.
- Screening
Failure to provide adequate screening or other protection against pests. Specifically, observed several openings to the exterior of the bulk storage building which allows pest entry.
- Lack of effective pest exclusion
Effective measures are not being taken to exclude pests from the processing areas and protect against the contamination of food on the premises by pests. Specifically, observed droppings in the product storage building and at the bulk product building. This is a repeat violation from the previous inspection.

- Cleaning and sanitizing operations
Failure to conduct cleaning and sanitizing operations for utensils and equipment in a manner that protects against contamination of food. Specifically, containers or utensils used to hold flavored popcorn products or popcorn balls are not cleaned prior to being stored and are not sanitized.
- Non-food-contact surfaces (S)
Failure to clean non-food-contact surfaces of equipment as frequently as necessary to protect against contamination. Specifically, observed significant webbing on the ceiling of the bulk storage building.
- Safe and adequate for use
Use of cleaning compounds and sanitizing agents which are not safe and adequate under the conditions of use. Specifically, 409 being used to clean/sanitize countertops in the packaging area is not approved for use to sanitize food-contact surfaces.
- Storage requirements
Failure to properly hold pesticide chemicals in a manner that protects against contamination of food. Specifically, open bait is being used in the bulk storage building.
- Lack of effective pest exclusion
Effective measures are not being taken to exclude pests from the processing areas. Specifically, observed droppings and mice in the product storage building and at the bulk product building. Heard crickets and observed spiders in the packaging area.
