What is the Brotherhood of St. Joseph and why is it named after St. Joseph? Is it a mutual aid society or a social club or both? How does it compare with the Knights of Columbus? How old is it and how old is the building in which it meets? Was the building built originally for the Brotherhood of St. Joseph? Since it is a brotherhood, are only men allowed? Growing up in North East, I had always been under the impression that it was an ambiguous club of mainly Italian/Sicilian men whose membership was by invitation only. Perhaps someone can post a history of the organization and the building in which it meets.
