There are many year round attractions for visitors and residents alike. The town was established in 1885 during the gold and silver mining era and named after David Thompson, a cartographer of the area. Thompson Falls has a population of nearly 1400 and is located in northwest Montana along Highway 200 aligned with the Idaho panhandle. Thompson Falls is about 100 miles northwest of Missoula, Montana. The climate is very mild averaging 80 degrees in summer and 26 degrees in winter. Thompson Falls is known as the banana belt of Montana. Precipitation is about 22 inches keeping the valley beautiful and green. Thompson Falls is home to wildlife and outdoor sports. There are many services including bed and breakfast inns, motels, RV Parks, shopping, art galleries, real estate and other service industries. The town is becoming found and is a destination for visitors from all over the world. Great fishing and hunting. The economy is growing, business are flourishing and the Chamber supports many great summer and winter activities. Meetings are held on the First Friday of each month with lunch at noon in the senior citizen's center. Thompson Falls has a small private air field and welcome's visitors year round.
