  • Our Name Means A Great Deal!” The Smail Family has been dedicated to selling and servicing automobiles to neighbors throughout Western Pennsylvania for over 70 years. It all started with Bud Smail, Sr. when he began his automotive career in 1938, working at his uncle's Chevrolet dealership in Jeanette, PA. In the 1950's Clarence B Smail, (Bud), began his teenage years, working part-time at the Chevrolet dealership along side his father. It was in 1956 that his father, Bud Smail Sr. acquired the Lincoln Mercury franchise in Jeanette, PA. Soon after, Bud Jr. returned from college and joined Bud Smail Lincoln Mercury as a full-time employee. After a brief relocation to downtown Greensburg, PA, the Lincoln Mercury dealership settled along Route 30 East in Greensburg in 1962, where it remains today. As a result of this new facility, Bud Smail Lincoln Mercury was awarded the exclusive Lincoln Mercury franchise for Central Westmoreland County. The 1960's brought about a new way of thinking for many people. The Smail organization embraced the changing times and Jim Smail, brother to Bud Smail Jr, joined the business in 1969. Jim and Bud proudly acquired the Honda Automobile franchise in 1976. A new Honda facility was also constructed in the late 1990's. The 1980's were years of tremendous growth for the organization. The brothers, Bud and Jim and the Smail Family of Dealerships represented the Pontiac, Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, Mazda, Isuzu and Acura franchises. It was during 1980 that Bill Smail, younger brother to Bud and Jim, joined the organization. By the mid 80's another generation had joined the family business - Bud's oldest son, Mark Smail in 1984 and youngest son, Jeff Smail in 1987. The expansion of the Smail Organization continued into the 90's with the GMC light duty truck franchise in 1991. The organization added another entity in 1997, the Smail Collision Center. The new century welcomed a new "modern" facility for Smail Acura in 2003 and the addition of the Smail Kia in 2005. The newest change came in October 2008, with the completion of the new Pontiac Cadillac GMC dealership, featuring a customer-friendly showroom and lounge, as well as convenient drive-through service bays. Throughout the years, both Bud Smail and Jim Smail have served on various manufacturers' boards, have been members of local, state and national associations in the auto industry, and have been good neighbors by supporting many charitable organizations. They have also continued to carry out Bud Sr.'s legacy of taking care of their customers and exceeding their expectations. This is undoubtedly the reason his business grew from a single Lincoln Mercury store with 11 employees, to a multi-franchise dealership that employs over 400 dedicated professionals in our communities. Today Smail Auto Group represents 10 new car franchises - Lincoln, Mercury, Pontiac, Cadillac, GMC, Mazda, Honda, Acura, Mercedes-Benz and Kia - five service and parts centers, a collision repair facility, auto glass repair and replacement services, and two professional detail centers. The mission remains the same, to provide exceptional customer service to each and every customer!
