Description:
Caris Healthcare, LP is a Statewide Hospice, with the Ripley area served out of an office in Somerville. We are currently seeking VOLUNTEERS in Ripley, as our patient population there is growing so quickly. Hospice is a special way of taking care of the terminally ill and their families. We take care of them physically, emotionally, spiritually, and a large part of what we do is done by volunteers. Volunteers can hold a hand, read to a patient, give a caregiver respite (to help reduce caregiver burnout), run errands, help around the house or yard. Hospice is a palliative (comfort) approach to end of life, versus a curative approach. What we do is give the terminally ill dignity in their final months, weeks, days, and keep them as comfortable as possible, with the latest in medications and treatments. The patient is allowed to reside where they choose, whether at a nursing facility or in their private homes. We have an interdisciplinary approach that includes: doctors (including the patients own doctor as well as our medical director), RNs, LPNs, CNAs, Social Workers, Chaplains, Volunteer Coordinators, Bereavement Coordinators, and VOLUNTEERS!
We take care of the whole family unit, and that includes bereavement followup for 13 months after the loss of a loved one. We have nurses on call 24 hours a day, to see to any need.
What I am looking for are VOLUNTEERS, as our volunteer and bereavement coordinator. Please contact us at 901-465-2120 or tolson@carishealthcare.com or visit our website at www.carishealthcare.com to learn more.
Help us make the final difficult days for these families better.
What I am asking for is you to consider volunteering, making a difference in the lives of these patients and families, and I guarantee a change in your own life.
Patient volunteers must be 16 years of age or older, with a valid drivers liscense and are submitted to TB and drug screens, as well as background checks. I know that may seem like a lot for a volunteer, but put yourself in the shoes of these families. You would want your volunteer to be just a well checked out as any of the staff members taking care of their loved ones.
I will make arrangements for small group orientations, and even private orientations, depending on the responses I receive. I will come to you, so you don't have to make the trip down to Somerville, and you can mail/fax your timesheets in. I will do whatever I need to to make it easier for you to get involved.
Also, if you know of someone who might be in need of Caris as a patient, please call the same number, at our office or the corporate number on the Caris website. Our staff can advise if a patient is likely to be eligible for our services, and what steps need to be taken, which usually starts with the patients personal physician making an order for Hospice, based on the diagnosis and terminal nature. Our staff can also answer any questions you may have about volunteering, or becoming a patient.
