  • Famous Old Time Music Company is a unique bluegrass experience. Home of CAMMY Award winning bluegrass band Vernon McIntyre's Appalachian Grass, Famous Old Time Music is also a retail music store, an indoor concert venue, host to a three day outdoor bluegrass festival, home of the Boatwhistle Memorial Hall, and home of the Famous Old Time Stringed Instrument Museum. The retail segment of Famous Old Time Music deals in new and vintage stringed instruments, especially guitars, banjos, mandolins, fiddles, and basses. Some brass and woodwind instruments can also be found. Repair and restoration services are available for stringed instruments. Lessons in all the bluegrass instruments are taught by professional musicians and owners, Vernon and Kitty McIntyre. Vernon McIntyre has been playing bluegrass professionally since age 15. A master of the banjo, Vernon now plays guitar and sings lead in his award winning band, Vernon McIntyre's Appalachian Grass. His wife, Kitty, joined the band in 1983 and has been the Appalachian Grass fiddler ever since. With Vernon's charismatic stage presense and Kitty's trick fiddling act, Vernon McIntyre's Appalachian is top-notch entertainment. Bluegrass in the Cornfields are the monthly indoor concerts in the Boatwhistle Memorial Hall at Famous Old Time Music. With seating capacity for 500 and in house food service, the Bluegrass in the Cornfields concerts are enjoyed by one and all. The Festival in the Cornfields is a three day outdoor bluegrass event held annually in the second weekend in September. With picking under the stars and a variety of quality bluegrass entertainment, the Festival in the Cornfields has become an annual Wapakoneta event. The Famous Old Time Stringed Instrument Museum displays a myriad of unique instruments ranging in age from mid 1800s to modern day. One of the prize possessions of the Museum is the upright bass played by Boatwhistle McIntyre. Boatwhistle played the bass with Earl Taylor's Stoney Mountain Boys in their historic concert as the first bluegrass band to ever play Carnegie Hall. The Museum also offers 'Hands On' seminars enjoyed by many of the local Wapakoneta school children.
