DeSoto Council on the Aging, Inc is a non-profit corporation organized and incorporated under the Louisiana Corporation Law (L.S.A.-R.S. Title 12, Chapter 2). The DCOA shall operate under the provisions of the charter issued by the Governor of the State of Louisiana.
The purpose of the DCOA shall be to act as a focal point for all actions which affect the Elderly of DeSoto Parish, with special attention given to the needs of the low-income, frail and elderly and minority elderly.
This Corporation may participate in any lawful action for which non-profit corporation may be formed under the Non-profit Corporation Law of Louisiana, to include bu not be limited to the following:
to collect facts and statistics and make special studies of conditions pertaining to the employment, financial status, recreation, social adjustment, mental and physical health or other conditions affecting the welfare of the the aging in the parish;
to keep abreast of the latest developments in these fields of activity throughout the State and Nation;
to conduct public meetings to make recommendations for needed improvements and additional resources;
to promote the welfare of aging people; to assist and cooperate with the Governor's Office of Elderly Affairs (GOEA) and other agencies serving the elderly; to determine overall program plans and priorties, subject to the policies of GOEA, including provisions for evaluating performance.
