Description:
Project Read of Madison County, a ProLiteracy America affiliate, is a non-profit adult literacy organization that provides instruction to basic literacy and English-Second-Language learners. Tutoring is provided by volunteers from the community who are trained by Project Read personnel according to the guidelines of ProLiteracy America.
Clients must be 16 years or older to enroll, and they cannot be students of the public school system. All classes, books, and materials are free of charge. Upon enrollment, each student is tested to determine his/her literacy level.
Project Read is supported by United Way of the Bluegrass, by private and corporate donations, by Madison County Government, and by grants from public foundations.
Clients and volunteers are referred for services by word of mouth, through our website--www.projectreadky.org--through our quarterly newsletter, by PSA's, and through newspaper articles.
We encourage all those who want to improve their reading and math skills, to improve their English-speaking skills, or to become volunteer tutors to contact Project Read at 859-6923-4905, or to email the Executive Director at bthomas@projectreadky.org.
