The dairy belt covers part of northern Illinois. Milk production in 2001 totaled and estimated 2 billion lb (0.9 billion kg). During 2001, Illinois poultry farmers sold an estimated 6.4 million lb (2.9 million kg) of chicken. An estimated 888 million eggs were produced in 2001, worth around $35.96 million.
