Consumer protection

Iowa has laws prohibiting fraud and misrepresentation in sales and advertising and harassment in debt collecting, in addition to others. There is a cooling-off period of three days for door-to-door purchases. The Iowa Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division deals with consumer fraud complaints, educates the public about such schemes, and litigates cases of consumer fraud. The Iowa Consumer Fraud Act is the primary piece of legislation enforced by the Consumer Protection Division.
