Pomponio State Beach

The Pomponio State Beach is located about 12 miles south of Half Moon Bay and is favorite beach destination among locals. The beach is great for seaside hiking and for lounging by the shoreline. There are miles of sloped beach, as well as rising sandstone bluffs, a small lagoon, parking and picnic areas. While the California sun shines bright in the area, temperatures can dip, especially as the sun sets, so dress in layered clothing to provide comfort. Dogs are not allowed on the beach. Pomponio connects to both the Pescadero State Beach and the San Gregorio State Beach. The beach is considered a nature preserve and visitors are asked to not remove driftwood, shells and other natural beach relics from the area. Wildlife in the area include fox, skunk, blue heron, deer, weasels and barn swallows. Visitors are invited to swim in the lagoon year-round. The beach is a popular recreation area and provides restrooms, picnic sites, hiking and fishing, but fires and fireworks are prohibited. The beach is a favorite among locals and many report they have spent afternoon relaxing in the sun and summer days partying with friends and family. The beach is clean and welcoming and some brides in the area have planned their weddings seaside.
