Description: ASU used to be all about Tempe. The satellite campuses were an afterthought. Now the downtown campus is a destination for undergraduates who want to live in the urban core of the city. By 2010 more than 13,000 students attended classes downtown. ASU opened the new state-of-the-art building for the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication in 2008, adding it to the growing campus that also includes undergraduate exploratory programs at University College, the College of Nursing and Health Innovation, and the Phoenix Urban Research Laboratory. The new ASU campus is centered in the heart of Copper Square and is a full-service arm of the main campus. Student services include computer labs, the massive Taylor Place dorms, a bookstore, library facilities, recreational facilities, and the Mercado area at 502 E. Monroe Ave.
