Description: This may be one of the few privately owned, as opposed to corporately owned, retirement communities in the area. An older but well-maintained complex of 215 apartments, the Cascades offers 2 types of apartments: independent and assisted. One-bedroom apartments of 400-plus square feet with balconies are available for rent with a 1-year lease. This includes 2 meals a day in the dining room, biweekly maid service, scheduled transportation, and all on-site activities. Assisted-living apartments vary from studios to 2-bedroom, 2-bath, renting at month-to-month rates. These residents get 3 meals, daily maid service, and “lots of TLC.” The apartments are small but are wheelchair accessible with wide doorways and roomy showers. The building is 4 stories with elevators and a central entrance. Apartments have emergency call buttons, and a security guard patrols at night. Amenities include a pool, game and activity rooms, and a beauty salon. The minimum age is 62, and small pets are allowed. This is a convenient location in close-in east Tucson just off Broadway Boulevard between Wilmot Road and Kolb Road. The apartment complex is close to shopping and dining and nearly all other services but off the main road enough for quiet living. Oh, and it’s very shaded—somewhat of a phenomenon in Tucson.
