Description: There are a lot of ways to help out at the zoo. With hundreds of animals to care for and more than 500,000 annual visitors, there’s always something to do. What would you do? Anything from taking care of the animals to adopting an animal, or you can become a zoo docent. Volunteers help keep the zoo running smoothly. Choose from among the animal, horticulture, membership, special events, and education departments, depending on your interests and skills. They do ask for a minimum commitment of 4 hours a month. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Auxiliary Docent Program is one of its most successful programs. They give tours and help children to care about wildlife and the natural world. No previous experience is necessary. They’ll train you. There are youth volunteer programs, too. To become a volunteer, there is a one-time fee of $46.50 to cover the costs of a background check and other expenses (official shirt, nametag, etc.).
