Description: Covering Metro Denver’s southeastern corner, District 5 encompasses Cherry Hills Village, Glendale, parts of Aurora, Englewood, Greenwood Village, and some of unincorporated Arapahoe County. It includes the rapidly growing and well-­to-­do communities along the northern edgeDistrict 5 has some impressive statistics, including the state’s highest average teacher salary. It has 39 elementary schools, 11 middle schools, six high schools, and one alternative high school. Thirteen Cherry Creek schools have received the John Irwin Award, given to the state’s highest-­performing schools. In 1996 West Middle School also became a Blue Ribbon School. Smoky Hill High has one of Colorado’s International Baccalaureate programs, in which advanced studies give students a jump on college. Every elementary and middle school in the district makes special accommodations for gifted and talented students.
