Description: The restored Oxford Hotel, a block away from Union Station, boasts a restaurant and bar complex that’s among the city’s best. The intimately sized Cruise Room was modeled after a lounge on the Queen Mary and has a wonderful art deco interior that dates from the lifting of Prohibition in 1933. A favorite with visiting authors, the Cruise Room is a great place for a late-­night drink, especially if your taste runs to martinis. The bar doesn’t have live music, but the jukebox is well stocked with jazz and Big Band music. Be forewarned: It can be tough to get a seat on the weekend unless you arrive early and stake out your spot. Also anchoring the ground floor of the Oxford Hotel is McCormick’s Fish House & Bar, with a roomy corner bar that attracts a big evening crowd for Guinness Stout on tap and other libations. Check out the well-­priced happy hour appetizers after work or for a late-­night snack.
