Description: This is a great museum to bring children if you want them to learn something while having fun. Besides the solar trail and disc golf outside, this museum features a small planetarium and mostly interactive exhibits, like an echo tube to clap into or “moon base” activities. There is also a preschool workshop for kids ages 0 to 3. Though the permanent exhibits are for children, there are some temporary traveling exhibits for adults, like one on electric guitars, from sitars and lutes to Eddie Van Halen’s Superstrat. And you’ll marvel at the model of Gustave Whitehead’s revolutionary 1901 airplane hanging in the lobby. Check the website for current events; the science demonstrations for the general public are a lot of fun, featuring lightning and fireballs. The best thing about the museum is the summer camp program, with 28 different classes in subjects like CSI forensics and model rocketry. If you’re in the area in the summer, send your budding scientists here.
