Description: This huge 15-day festival in June takes place primarily on the New Haven Green and includes concerts, street performers, opera, theater, and dance performances. There are also “ideas” lectures and discussions, which focus on everything from food to international politics. Most of the events are free or cost only a pittance for materials. In addition to the lectures and performances, there are walking tours of New Haven by experts, food tours through the excellent New Haven restaurants, and more. They usually organize some of these events through multidisciplinary themes, like “freedom’s journey” or “civil liberties.” This is a fascinating festival that shows all of New Haven’s strengths, and there’s something for everyone. There was someone once who tried to do everything during the 15 days of the festival, and failed miserably. Your mind and heart will never be the same.
