Description: Long Wharf Pier is the home of the reproduction schooners Amistad and Quinnipiack. This nonprofit organization has daily public sails, charters, and camps. The Amistad is, of course, a reproduction of the famous slave ship involved in one of the most important court cases in American history, beginning right here in New Haven. Along the pier, a series of placards tell the story of the Amistad revolt, the trials that followed, and the impact on slavery in America. Walk west along the seawall through Veterans Memorial Park and get lunch at one of the excellent Mexican food trucks that park here every day. The Quinnipiack is always there, but the Amistad makes long excursions and is often away from its home port for educational purposes. It also winters at Mystic Seaport (New London County). Call to make sure, but definitely take the opportunity to sail on a schooner in the Sound.
