Description: Broadway musicals, legendary ballets, all-star concerts, and comedy shows all have a home at the Shubert Theater in downtown New Haven, just a block from the Green. The 1,600-seat theater opened in 1916, and the Shubert has been called the “Birthplace of the Nation’s Greatest Hits.” Every season classics like South Pacific, Beauty and the Beast, and The Wizard of Oz show up on the marquee. Parking is available right next door at the Crown Street Garage (entrances on both Crown and College). The glass front lobby lights up as night falls, and comfortable seating insures all theatergoers have a great view of the stage. Run by CAPA, a nonprofit organization, the theater is committed to quality arts and community enrichment. Education and outreach programs help bring theater to the people of the city and the state.
