Description: In its utilitarian brick building in Stamford, the Colony Grill has been serving pizza since 1935. That’s it. Just pizza. Well, okay, they have beer or soda to go along with it, but basically you get a pie for less than ten bucks, and each topping is a buck fifty, including sausage, pepperoni, meatballs, mushrooms, onions, black olives, cherry peppers, stingers, hot oil, anchovies, or bacon. It’s a great deal, and way better than any chain pizza shop will ever come up with. The pizza here is different than the kind you might get elsewhere, especially if you choose the hot oil topping. Maybe you’d rather go with the meatball and onion combo. But locals swear up and down by this place, and you might find yourself addicted soon as well. There is a new location at 1520 Post Rd., Fairfield (203-259-1989), that some say is as good as the original.
