Description: For more than 50 years, the City of Clearwater has hosted the Fun ‘n’ Sun Festival that usually runs late April through early May. The lineup of events has changed through the years, based on the interests of the organizations sponsoring various events. Fun runs, horseshoe tournaments, scrapbooking seminars, and a brunch with the birds have been featured activities. There’s usually an ethnic component—last year’s was a Japanese Lantern Festival celebrating Clearwater’s 50-year relationship with sister city Nagano, Japan—and an outdoor come-and-play day. But the three concerts are the biggest draw. Held at the end of the festival, each concert features a different style of music—oldies, smooth jazz, and country—sponsored by a local radio station. Two of the concerts are free (premium seating costs $20), but the jazz concert is by paid ticket only (starting at $10 in advance). There are activities for the kids, and the usual food and beverage vendors. Friday’s concert is from 5 to 11:30 p.m., Saturday’s is from noon to 11:30 p.m., and Sunday’s is from noon to 9:30 p.m. Parking is scattered in various parking lots throughout the downtown area.
