Description: Seven commissioners oversee Hillsborough County government. The commissioners appoint a county administrator who runs the day-to-day operations of Hillsborough County. The Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners meets the first and third Wednesdays of each month on the second floor of the County Center building in Tampa, the county seat (address above). Meetings begin at 9 a.m. and are also aired live on Hillsborough Television (HTV). Hillsborough County’s 1,072 square miles (including 24 square miles of inland water area) is mostly unincorporated. Three incorporated municipalities—Tampa, Plant City, and Temple Terrace—occupy 163 square miles. The population of the three cities totals just over 400,000. The population of the unincorporated area of Hillsborough County is just over 800,000.
