Description: The striking design of downtown’s East Bay Inn will catch your eye even if you’re not looking for a place to stay. The exterior’s tall windows and brickwork reflect the Greek Revival style, popular in Savannah around the time of the Civil War. The inn’s entrance is friendly, and you’re greeted with a warm welcome as soon as you step into the lobby. As typical with most commercial buildings of the period, the facade of the first floor is cast iron, as are the interior columns. Boasting the charm of a smaller inn with a cheery ambience in all of the common areas, this inn offers incredible style and service for a more moderate price. From the ornate benches that are outside the lobby, to the rich furnishings inside, this inn, built in 1852, once served as offices for cotton merchants and housed cotton warehouses. In 1984, after several years of lying dormant, refurbishment began transforming the structure into the present-day East Bay Inn. Featuring 28 rooms—each with 18th-century-style furnishings, hardwood floors, four-poster queen-size rice beds or plantation queen beds, high ceilings, and large, beautiful windows—this inn has become one of the city’s most popular. Exposed brick walls, heart-pine floors, and plenty of comfortable places to rest, read, and dine, are factors in this establishment’s success. Each guest room is tastefully decorated and meticulously kept. You will feel comfortable and safe whether your visit is for business or a nice romantic getaway. This is the perfect place to book a small wedding. You can have the ceremony in a private room in the restaurant below the inn, enjoy a reception there, and book rooms for the entire wedding party.
