Description: What began as a teacher training school in 1867 has evolved into today’s fully accredited university with 12,000 students and more than 70 undergraduate and graduate degree programs—its College of Education is still a top choice. Ranked as the most ethnically diverse university in the Midwest by US News and World Report, Northeastern is located in the equally diverse neighborhood of Albany Park. Its affordable tuition—it’s consistently noted for its high number of students who graduate with little or no debt—makes Northeastern attractive as a place for adult learners too. Its mostly commuter-population base means students are immersed in the city of Chicago and all it has to offer; plus, there’s lots of parking available. In addition to its main 67-acre campus, there are three additional locations in Chicago, as well as degree programs in Lake County.
