Description: To enter into the Louisiana State Museum and its historic structures is to venture through a gateway to Louisiana’s past. One of New Orleans’ top attractions, the state museum is actually a collection of nine structures throughout Louisiana, five of which are located near Jackson Square in the heart of the French Quarter: the Cabildo, the Presbytere, the Old U.S. Mint, the 1850 House, and the Arsenal. The Louisiana State Museum is one of the region’s best values. In New Orleans visitors may purchase single building tickets or purchase tickets to two or more properties and receive a 20 percent discount. Visitor guides are available to each of the buildings. Plan on at least 45 minutes per building. Optional guided tours, at no extra cost, take about the same time and require at least 24 hours’ advance notice. All buildings are open Tues through Sun 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All state museums are wheelchair accessible except for the 1850 House. Special accommodations for viewing the house are offered to individuals who request them. All visitors who have other special needs are asked to call in advance to allow museum staff to make arrangements.
