Description: Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation (SPAR) and Caddo Parish Parks & Recreation have hosted the Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Basketball Tournament for more than 20 years. This athletic event honors the legacy of Dr. King and is held in conjunction with African American History Month celebrations across the city. The MLK Jr. Basketball Tournament is designed to unite men, women, and youth of all ethnic backgrounds for three days of fun, fitness, and community. Over $3,000 of cash prizes and awards are given to championship teams. Over 100 teams (Pro-Am to Youth) from five Southern states participate, featuring some of the toughest roundballers in the South. In 2009, the MLK Tournament added a Men’s Pro-Am and a Wheelchair Division, and a Jobs Corp Division in 2010. Like the hoops? Then check out the action.
