Description: Autumn in Maine is as beautiful as it is in Vermont and New Hampshire, perhaps even more so, because the state has the sea off which the colors can reflect. But, perhaps due to marketing, those states are the ones people associate with glowing foliage. Several Maine communities have put together festivals to pay homage to the season (and attract visitors), and one of the better ones is in Boothbay at the Railway Village Museum. More than 100 vendors typically show up to display Maine-made crafts, woodworking, art, and jewelry, and to sell locally canned and baked goods. Local bands play on stages, to the delight of adults, and the trains of the popular little museum chug around their track to entertain the kids. Plenty of chowders and cider are available, too. It’s a good excuse to drive down to the Boothbays at a particularly beautiful time of year.
