Description: The Marginal Way, Ogunquit’s hugely popular oceanfront walking path, starts right outside this Shore Road favorite. That and the gardens alone are worth visiting for. But there is much more to like. The Sparhawk has 87 guest rooms spread across four buildings, with suites and cottages among them, so it’s comfortable for a longish stay, and it sits on six acres overlooking the booming surf. The grounds are expansive and pleasant to wander; you’ll find tennis and shuffleboard courts and a heated pool for dipping. Everything in town is within walking distance—from the beach and the shops to Perkins Cove. You can even get a guest membership to the local golf course. The rooms are varied; some are motelish, some are more innlike, so you’re certain to find what you’re looking for. The Sparhawk has been welcoming guests in some incarnation for more than a century, and you’ll understand why if you choose to stay here. There’s a one-week minimum stay required in high summer, but you can get good deals in the shoulder seasons when it’s more pleasant to be in Ogunquit anyway.
