Hartland is a hole in the wall in Omaha’s Benson neighborhood, and its decor is simple, with tables, chairs, and an order-at-the-counter style setup. Daily specials include three slow smoked baby back ribs served with two sides and cornbread for $7.99 or the diner’s choice of a smoked sausage, chopped pork, or chopped chicken sandwich served with a soda and chips for $5.50. Hartland sells meat by the pound, including slow-smoked Angus brisket, ­hardwood-smoked pork, and sometimes cold-smoked pork ribs to go. It also sells slow smoked chicken and half and full racks of baby back ribs. Homemade sides include baked beans, creamy cucumbers, green beans, potato salad, or coleslaw. It’s simple, good, home-cooked barbeque at a reasonable price.
