Description: Jackson Street Tavern is one of the newest restaurants to open in Omaha’s Old Market and has a menu with an interesting blend of tapas and American dishes. The Tavern lives up to its name, with bulky dark wood tables, a long wood bar, and television sets high on the walls. The front section of the restaurant has pull-up garage doors, making it a fun place to sit in warmer weather. Located on bustling Jackson Street, a seat in the front offers some good people watching. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner and has a special late night menu featuring tapas specials and drinks at reduced prices; that menu goes into effect at 11 p.m. and lasts until 2 a.m. A regular happy hour runs daily from 4 to 6 p.m. Creative sandwiches, salads, and entrees decorate Jackson Street’s menu. The Cavatelli di mare is a popular pasta dish featuring sea scallops, gulf shrimp, and Maine lobster meat finished with roasted garlic cream sauce. Sandwiches are named after different cities, and the Omaha Hilltop sandwich features roasted turkey, applewood smoked bacon, hard boiled eggs, shredded lettuce, tomato, and thousand island dressing on marble rye. The tapas aren’t anything singular but taste good when 11 p.m. rolls around. Try the roasted garlic hummus pita strips or the chicken satay with cucumbers and peanut sauce.
