Description: One of the newest tournaments on the PGA Tour, the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open (formerly Reno/Tahoe Open) drew rave reviews from players and spectators alike at its debut in 1999. Now, as a more seasoned event, it draws a large percentage of the top money winners on the tour and offers an attractive $3 million purse. Following the usual tour format, the tournament consists of a Pro/Am on Wednesday, followed by four days of golf for the pros only. Along with the warm hospitality the tournament extends, the event provides a memorable outdoor experience for anyone who attends. Meandering through huge stands of ponderosa pines at the base of Slide Mountain, the course at Montreux Golf and Country Club is vintage Jack Nicklaus—bad, but oh, so beautiful. Because it’s also very private, the tournament offers nonmembers a rare opportunity to see the layout up close and personal. And since the event is still relatively new to the PGA schedule, it’s not as packed with spectators as some other more established tournaments. This event is a marvelous opportunity to not only see some of the best golf in the world but also to enjoy a hassle-free day in a beautiful mountain setting.
