The festival, which began in 1961, has been chosen as one of the region’s top 20 March events annually since 1989 by the Southeast Tourism Society.Can-Am, which happens in the middle of the month, traditionally coincides with Ontario’s school holiday, so many families attend. The festival includes a wide variety of indoor and outdoor activities, with an ever-growing lineup of new events each year. Past highlights of the festival included the National Shag Dance Championships, a deep-sea fishing tournament, an antique car show, celebrity look-alike contests, an International Kitefest, Can-Am Little Olympics, and the Can-Am Cup youth soccer tournament. During this much-anticipated week, local radio stations feature Canadian news and weather broadcasts. For more information call or visit their Web site.
