Description: This is the world’s largest spring break for mature adults. More than 15,000 shaggers, members of the Society of Stranders, and lovers of the beach gather in North Myrtle Beach in mid-Apr for an annual rite of spring. Ten full days and nights of beach music and activities are all part of this riotous ritual. There’s even a parade along Main Street in North Myrtle Beach, where shag club members design and build their own floats. Just let your imagination run wild! During one of the annual festivities, 3,000 of the crowd danced in unison, completely unconcerned about traffic. Admission to the dance clubs (Ducks and Ducks Too, 229 Main St.; Fat Harold’s Beach Club, 212 Main St.; and Spanish Galleon, 100 Main St.) is free for card-holding S.O.S. members. The S.O.S. card costs $30 and entitles you to numerous benefits including discounts at many beach stores and clubs.
