Celebration City Theme Park - Branson MO - Amusement Park Rides Route 66

Billed as a night-time theme park, the Celebration City theme park in Branson was a raging success right up until the end. Together with its sister park, Silver Dollar City, the park celebrated American life and various elements of the geography of the United States. Attractions included a miniature Route 66, a boardwalk from the 1920's, and a small town America from the 1900's.

The theme park opened in 2003 on the site of a former park known as Mutton Hollow. It had been purchased by the Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation and completely redesigned and redecorated. The park featured several rides, including a log flume opened in 2008, as well as a water, fire and laser show that ran nightly.

The typical season for the park was May to October. Unfortunately, like many other parts of the country, Branson has felt the effects of the economic downturn. Lower visitor levels had left many attractions with unmet financial obligations. Celebration City found itself struggling to pay the bills as the 2008 tourist season progressed.

After much deliberation and speculation in the local press, the Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation made an announcement. The park would finish the 2008 season but would not be reopening for the 2009 season. The recent upgrades and additions such as the log flume ride had put the park into an unprofitable position.

It is not known what will happen to the Celebration City theme park location. With the recently refurbished attractions still in good working order, it could make an attractive item on the auction block. The Herschend Family may also decide to simply let the park sit out a year while the market recovers and tourist traffic goes back up to former levels. Either way, the night-time entertainment of the park will be sorely missed in Branson.

I am VERY sorry to hear that Celebration City has closed, we plan our fall vacation every year with the kids down there, Celebration City was the highlight of the trip. Without Celebration City, we won't be coming back for quite awhile, the kids, being 6 years old, are still to young to go to the music shows and Celebration City was the perfect size. We can only hope that they open it back up next year. Branson is the perfect getaway for our family, only being about 5 hours from home.

I would much rather go to Celebration City than Silver Dollar City I hate to say. I really enjoyed Celebration City in 2008. Hate that it closed!

Celebration City was always the highlight of our vacations to Branson. We loved the carnival atmosphere and greatly enjoyed walking around the park during the cooler evening hours. If it ever reopened, we would be one of the first ones to return back to it.

I also liked Celebration City, that was the only place where you could find the Andy Griffith T-shirts an I love Lucy. It was a fun place but, it cost to much to go for a family and
if you didn't ride the rides you still had to pay. When it was Branson USA it was cheaper and if you didn't ride the rides you didn't have to pay.

I enjoyed Celebration City because it was a clean park with wholesome entertainment. We didn't have to worry about confrontations with drunk people or gang activity at this park. My kids and I felt safe there and would love to see it reopen again.

We LOVED Celebration City! As a parent, I felt much more at ease there than at Silver Dollar City. The park was small enough that the parents could sit and watch their children get on the ride and off the ride without fear of not knowing where the exit to the ride was, but was big enough that the rides were awesome! The atmosphere was more like 'Small-Town U.S.A.' in the 50's. And every night like clock-work we would hear the fireworks at closing time from our motel. I loved the cooler nights vs. the sweltering humidity of midday Silver Dollar City! We were VERY disappointed about the closing - PLEASE bring Celebration City back!

Me and my family drive past Celebration City every year and it's still there, empty and deserted. I really hope they open it back up. We use to go there every year, it was so awesome!

I so miss seeing this attraction being opened. I come to Branson at least once a year and so wanted to take my grandchildren there. :( I keep up by the news on line and have seen that it will never be reopening. That is so sad. Hope that something fun goes in there for children of all ages.

It was a sad day that this gem closed. I know of another amusement park that had a good record and is family friendly. Try Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana. Loved it and not too big.

I really enjoyed the park when it was known as Mutton Hollow, several years ago. Went there several times - I think it had horseback riding trails there.
