Commercial Row and Jibboom Street

Truckee is a short 12 mile drive north of Lake Tahoe, 100 miles east of Sacramento, 200 miles northwest of San Francisco, CA and 40 miles west of Reno, Nevada. Truckee is a historic railroad town that served as a train stop for the first transcontinental rail line.

Old Town Truckee has maintained much of its old west charm and features dozens of historically recognized sites. Jibboom Street is most historic street in downtown Truckee as it was initially the only road through the basin and was the location of the town's first building Gray's Cabin.

Many of the Commercial Row buildings became saloons providing nightly entertainment for the loggers and railroad men that worked there. Truckee boasted the largest red light district of any small town in the west, attracting all sorts of ruffians and a rugged breed of lawmen.

Today Old Town visitors can find charming shops, art galleries, several restaurants and pubs, a historic hotel and many landmarks dating from the 1860s.

In addition to the historic sites within town, Truckee is within a short driving distance from Donner Lake, Lake Tahoe and several state parks offering a variety of outdoor activities for all seasons of the year.
