Design Museum of UC Davis

The Design Museum of UC Davis is located in Davis, California as a sub campus to the University of California. The design museum was created for exhibition of national and international designs. The exhibits have architecture, graphic design, costume, textiles, media, and popular culture images that have been used as designs for several things including clothing. The idea is to dedicate a museum to the understanding of design and how the environment can shape the expressions. The Design Collection at the museum has been created based on 40 years of collecting and preservation. There are 5,000 items on display dating to the 16th century to present. Some are porcelain, glass, basketry, or furniture.

Admission to the actual museum is free; however, parking on weekdays is $6. Museum hours are 12pm to 4pm Monday through Friday, and 2pm to 4pm on Sundays. Not only is the Design Museum meant to house exhibits and collections regarding the evolution of designs, but it is also a place for education and outreach. They offer a curriculum that teaches college level students how to design, as well as the history of design. Often they offer traveling exhibits to keep the public interest.
