Red Pass Death Valley Junction


Death Valley Junction is one of the last small towns before entering Death Valley National Park, California. The town is unincorporated and set east of the national park. The entire park runs along the Nevada- California border. By taking highway 190 visitors can enter the park from Death Valley Junction to see such sites as Red Pass.

Red Pass is a section of mountain one can take through the Grapevine Mountains and Titus Canyon. The pass was named after the red rocks used to form this desert creation. It takes about three hours to thoroughly explore all that the road way and the pass has to offer. From certain areas on the pass it is possible to see the mountains, Leadfield Ghost Town, and Titanothere Canyon. The actual roadway begins off of route 374 running from Death Valley Buttes to Rhyolite Ghost Town from the west. To get through Titus Canyon it is necessary to go over Red Pass, as well as stop at Furnace Creek to check the road conditions.

Visitors should have off road vehicles with high clearance to make the trek. Also bring plenty of gas, water, and supplies for the trip.
