Sacramento City Museum

Sacramento City Museum is a history museum located at I street in Sacramento, California and is approximately 20 minutes from Sacramento International Airport. The museum provided visitors with a detailed history of the city including the gold rush period. The museum opens daily from 10am to 5pm but is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

The current museum was opened in 1985 and the building is a reproduction of the 19th century City Hall and Waterworks building, which was demolished in 1913. There are several exhibits here with pictures and artifacts on display to highlight the subject matter. One of the exhibitions outlines the first 50 years of Sacramento's history and the characters that gained and lost fortunes either side of the gold rush.

Other galleries detail the role of the community over the years and how Sacramento came to be one of the richest agricultural areas in the world. The museum can be rented for birthday parties and other events from 5pm to 11pm daily, whilst the conference room is available too from 8am to 4pm daily. Podiums, projectors, phones, copy and fax machines are all available to hire here.
