Santa Ynez Canyon

Santa Ynez Canyon is a wild wilderness area in Santa Ynez, California. For those who enjoy walking or hiking, Santa Ynez Canyon can offer hours of enjoyment, especially for those who want to take Santa Ynez Trail to Santa Ynez Falls. When hikers start out on the trail to the falls, they can look out to the left and see deer grazing in the grassy knolls. While it is not an assured thing to see deer, they are more often than not eating in the grass.

Further along the trail that takes one through Santa Ynez Canyon are sandstone formations. It is possible to climb up these formations to see mountain and ocean views. The last 100 feet of the trail through the canyon up to the falls does require some climbing over boulders. There is even a rope ladder at one point to help visitors climb up. At the waterfall visitors can climb up to the top, though it is dangerous and therefore recommended only for experienced climbers. From the top of the falls one can see Santa Ynez Canyon and how the river cuts through the valley below. To reach the trailhead visitors should follow Entrada Road to Topanga State Park.
