Santa Ynez Valley


Santa Ynez Valley is part of Santa Barbara County near Santa Ynez, California. It is found between Santa Rafael Mountains and Santa Ynez Mountains. The Santa Ynez River flows from east to west in the valley. The valley is separated from Los Alamos Valley by Purisima Hills and Solomon Hills. The Santa Rita Hills make the valley a separate area from Santa Rita and Lompoc Valleys as well.

The valley is populated with 20,000 residents living in Solvang, Los Olivos, Buellton, Ballard, and Santa Ynez. Culturally, Santa Ynez has been used in the film Sideways. It is possible to visit a couple of the places seen in the film like Buellton Days Inn and the Hitching Post Restaurant.

The economy of the valley is driven mostly by agricultural. It is a very popular area for grape growing, and therefore wineries. The equine industry is also popular here since the first days Santa Ynez Valley was populated. The historic Western atmosphere is still alive with many ranches and farms raising thoroughbred horses. For tourism Santa Ynez Valley has resorts, antique stores, wine tasting rooms, and several art galleries. Also, Los Padres National Forest is close to the valley.
