The Improv

The Improv Los Angeles, California is one of the first Improvisation Theaters. The tradition started in the 1960s in which stages around the United States were built for actors and actresses who wanted to make themselves known. Budd Friedman began the tradition of the red brick wall when he opened a place in NY. He took down some paneling and since he couldn't afford drywall he left the red brick wall showing. Today many improvisation clubs have a real or fake red brick wall to honor the early days.

The Improv State in Los Angeles has hosted such actors as Eddie Murphy, Tim Allen, Jerry Seinfeld, Jay Leno, Dana Cook, Chris Rock, Jamie Foxx, Ellen DeGeneres, and Adam Sandler. Anyone who wants to get a start in acting or comedy has to begin with Improv. Scouts tend to hit the clubs in order to find new and fresh faces.

Craig Shoemaker, Bert Kreischer, Charlie Murphy, Theo Von, Loni Love, and Alonzo Bodden are some of the comedians who appear at the Improv in Los Angeles. Some events include Open Mic, Mo Betta, Tom Segura, and the Improv even has holiday parties. It is possible to book the space for a special private party.
