Thinking about adoption of a child. I'm I to old for this and my girlfriend is 65 years old. I'm 56 years old. We do have medical conditions like Diabetes and bi-polar.
56/65 are ok for Foster (are you looking at Foster Adopt?).
One thing the Child Placement agency is going to look at at age, is will you be alive long enough? For adoption, They probably would not place a "younger" child. They would aim for a child in the 12+ age range.
Are your medical conditions "controlled"? In other words, "Do you think you are healthy enough to parent a child?"
It just really depends. What sort of child are you looking for? What kind of parenting experience do you have?
Also, you said "foster" and then changed to "adopt", those are 2 different things.
More info would be helpful. You can always contact a state agency and tell them you would like to learn more.
I have never had children but my girlfriend had two children years ago. We would like to adopt. Girlfriend has bi-polar which now is under control with medicine.
Any children that are up for straight adoption are going to have some severe behavioral issues and be over the age of five most likely. Are you both prepared for that? I agree that an older child would be best because of her age. Is she active? Because that is what a child would want/need.
