I’m in the “OTM” area (over-the-mountain), southern suburbs of Birmingham. There is weather, but tornadoes are exceeding rare here. Consider that my house has survived intact since 1963, and you get the idea.

By the way, I agree with a previous commenter about northeast Alabama’s beauty. The “problem” is that southeast, southwest, and northwest Alabama is beautiful as well! If you haven’t committed to anything yet, just know that there’s not really a bad choice in the four corners of our state. Most of us love it here!
