Well it looks like upstate will not get a Costco. What a shame, it would bring needed revenue to the area and jobs, instead of the depressed area it is becoming. https://wnyt.com/albany-new-york-new...stco-/5931117/
I order from Costco online quite a bit and before Covid would road trip to CT to a store.
There is one in Camillus just west of Syracuse and one in Rochester.
The spot needs the development to bring it back. There is plenty of traffic, it just needs a place to go to there.
They are still Upstate NY, as it also has regions. Rochester is WNY, Syracuse(Camillus) is CNY and many call Albany the Capital District/Region. This is for another thread though.
With this said, I think it is a matter of time before the area gets a Costco. Until then, the closest are in Brookfield CT and Camillus(both are roughly the same distance away).
With all the building of homes (even farmland) and increase in population of Saratoga/Malta/Ballston Spa, etc. there is no Costco! Can't believe people in Guilderland were so against it.

Was there a reason given for the pushback against it?
I'm convinced there had/has to be a compromise in getting a Costco to the capital region. Fine, if the residents of Guilderland are so opposed, there are other municipalities to look at. We cut our noses off to spite our face around here, it seems.
Meanwhile, once-thriving Colonie has turned its 3 main drags (Central Ave./Route 5; Troy-Schenectady Rd./Route 2&7; and Loudon Rd/Route 9) into long stretches of self-storage lots, car dealerships, and discount motels.
I'd rather have to put up with the traffic of one Costco than all of the above.
