I am thinking of moving back to upstate NY, trying to decide between Rochester and Albany (I would much perfer Albany area or closer to MA). I have an adult son that has some serious medical issues and works from home and takes classes from home. We are moving back to get him medical care. Our first choice was to go to MA, but the real estate market is just crazy there.

Is there a place to get a complete map of where fios is avaiable. The verizon webiste makes you put in every address to check. What about a list of the co-ops that are putting in fiber like Otesgo and Delhi? Besides the area I live in now having limited medical care (not due to covid, just no doctors ocming to my rural area) , I am paying for 3 internet providers and they all stink. I would love to have one provider, one good fiber provider and just pay the bill and not worry about the service being out for days a month and my son;s job being on the line.

Thanks for any sugesstions. I am looking for a single family house, not city condo or apartment. I am coming from a place with lots of land so communities with 1/4 acre yards would be a want but not a need like the internet

Are you looking in the Albany area specifically or rural areas outside of the area to the SW like Otsego and Delaware counties?

Also, what is your budget for a home? What kind of community/neighborhood are you looking for?

You probably should have this moved to the general section of the NY forum, if you are looking into other areas as well.

According to this information from Verizon, the Albany, Plattsburgh and Syracuse areas are the only Upstate areas within a reasonable drive to MA(the last 2 are within a few hours, if that is ok): https://www.verizon.com/home/fiosavailability/

You need to narrow your search area.
Fiber can be hit or miss. Might be on one street and not another.
Or not even down the entire street.
It’s an ongoing upgrade.
Once you can kinda find a target area, contact the local provider and see if it’s available in that area. A few providers have interactive maps that you search availability by address.
