As far as I know, the 12 Albertson's stores that will be sold have not been identified. The folks who work at the store I shop at are getting a little antsy about it.
I expect the deal will eventually go through, but there may be more store sales to make the FCC happy. Piggly Wiggly is basically a southern chain, with OK and TX as far west as they go. I've been in a few of them in KY and TN and they are a pretty standard grocery store.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think Albertson's already owns Safeway.
And Albertsons owns Shaws here in New England. This is something that has been in the works now for a year. It wont affect much here in New England because Kroger has no stores here. But out west this will be a problem for sure
We have 4 Major grocery chains in New England area. Market Basket, Hannaford, Stop & Shop and Shaws.
Nobody owns Market Basket but market basket. And Hannaford & Stop & Shop owned by Delhaize an overseas company and Shaw's is owned by Albertsons which they Suck!! I worked for Shaw's for 45 years and we always wanted Kroger to own us. As far as Kroger building stores here I doubt it..If they do maybe Conn. or New York. The other western half of the US will be the biggest issue. Ive seen a lot in the last 45 years companies buying other companies, selling, buying again etc. nothing will surprise me.
