Has anyone had problems with the insurance coverage of clustered allergy shots? That is where they give several shots on the same day rather than spacing them one week apart.

I have Humana Medicare Advantage.
Insurance varies covering any procedure let alone allergy shots. I'm a cardiologist and we offer certain stents that are covered by all insurance plans and people have to pay out of pocket for them. You can always ask how much the out of pocket cost is. Usually they give you a steep discount if you are paying cash.
I don't know if mine were clustered shots but they gave me a shot in each arm, each shot containing multiple antigens. I think I had to wait about three days before going back for more shots so I usually went twice a week. It's the type of shot that is based upon precise testing so that you are getting the exact dose for you, not just a general one-size-fits-all dose, the same dose they give to everyone.
Since the testing is so precise, there is almost a zero chance of an allergic reaction, so you don't have to sit around for twenty minutes with them watching to see if you have a reaction.
To clarify, clustered shots are where you get up to 4 shots in one visit, waiting 20-30 minutes between each shot. So you might stay in the office for two hours.
Humana told me that I would need to get pre-authorization for the clustered shots.

Have you ever suggested that these patients be tested for Candida overgrowth?
Going to allergist and shots NEVER helped me. I even got to a place where allergist sent me home with solutions and needles to do my own, but never any relief.

Why not call the benefits coordination department at your insurance company and ask?
I have had allergy shots. They were quite effective for me. I guess my question is why do you want to take several shots in one day? Are you sure the clinic will do that? One issue with allergy shots is not sending you into a severe allergic reaction. The more you have in one day, the more likelihood there is of that.
Allergy shots helped me a lot. I think they were called provocative neutralization. They work really fast because you start out at your maximum dose. It's great for someone who is really, really sick from allergies
