Alternative medicine is not based upon evidence gathered using the scientific method. The treatments are not backed by scientific evidence. Some examples are Traditional Chinese Medicine, Naturopathy, Chiropratic, Homeopathy, and Energy medicine. It is unproven, often untested, but in many cases it works. Perhaps there has not been time or money or enough interest to study it but that does not always mean it is not effective. Sometimes when forms of alternative medicine have been subjected to scientific study, they are found to work and they leave the realm of alternative medicine and become mainstream, conventional medicine.
We who post in this sub forum are not necessarily against conventional medicine. Many of us use conventional medicine AND alternative medicine.
Complimentary medicine is alternative medicine used along with conventional medicine.
